Detailed designs revealed for new Aquatic Centre

The Mount Barker District Council has revealed the detailed concept design for the brand new regional aquatic and leisure centre to be built adjacent to Aston Hills.

This new aquatic centre will be built next to the Summit Sports Park adjacent to Aston Hills, and the council’s General Manager of Planning and Community, Marc Voortman, said “The site already contains stage one of the Summit Sport and Recreation Park and heritage barns, and the new facility will connect with these and the Laratinga Wetlands by existing and new linear trails.”

Architects from DesignInc have revealed a design that includes an indoor aquatic and leisure centre, a competition capable 25m lap pool, a leisure pool, a toddler splash and play area, a warm water hydrotherapy pool and a gym, cafe, creche and community and wellness rooms.

The plans also reveal integration with the site’s existing native trees and heritage barns.

“The centre offers a rare opportunity to consider a new form of social space for Mount Barker, the simple joys of swimming and playing, and gathering with family and friends,” Mr Voortman said.

With plans for expansion in the future, the concept design also allows scope for additional features such as water slides, an outdoor 50m pool and indoor sports courts.

This is exciting news for residents of Aston Hills, as this new facility will be located adjacent to the development along with the Summit Sports Park and the Aston Hills Golf Club – making this a fantastic location for active and growing families.

Construction on the new aquatic centre is expected to commence in May 2023, with completion expected by October 2024. You can read more about the plans for this exciting new facility here.
