Welcome to the Aston Hills Golf Club!
We are delighted to introduce Brad Ashby, a resident of Aston Hills, as the new Manager of the Aston Hills Golf Club…
The Aston Hills Golf Club has a new Manager, and we’re thrilled to announce that he’s a local! Brad Ashby has joined the team down at the Aston Hills Golf Club and he is also a resident of Aston Hills. We asked Brad a round of questions to formally introduce him to the Aston Hills community.
Hey Brad, welcome to the Aston Hills Golf Club! We’re excited to have one of our residents as the new Manager of the Club. Tell us about your Aston Hills journey – how did you end up living at Aston Hills?
Thank you, I’m excited to be a part of this great club and even better that it’s so close to home! My Aston Hills journey came about through my partner Kaitlyn and I purchasing our first home. We had looked at a few options but eventually settled on the fact that we wanted to live in the hills as neither of us grew up in the area but had always loved coming up here on weekends. The block of land we built on was close to the new sports precinct and we felt it was a great place to live with lots of parks, new shops, and upcoming developments. The AFL coming here and putting a game on with my beloved Swans within walking distance has also solidified my appreciation for the move up here.
Tell us about your background and what you hope to bring to your new role at the Aston Hills Golf Club?
My background has mostly been in hospitality management, and I’ve been fortunate to work at some awesome venues including the Stirling Hotel and Never Never Distillery. Hopefully I can bring my knowledge of hospitality operations, an element of fun, and engage with the Hills community as we look to build on the clubhouse services, our functions offering and get people playing golf.
Are you a golfer? Tell us about your golfing background!
I guess you could say I’m a golfer (in the loosest of terms, I certainly couldn’t quit my day job anytime soon) as I love the game and all the challenges it offers. For me, golf became my go to when my body couldn’t handle the contact sports I played growing up and it became an excellent way of getting some steps in and catching up with mates in a period of our lives where everyone is always busy. In time it’s developed into more than just a casual swing with mates, whether it be going to the driving range or meeting people for a drink in the clubhouse.
How can our residents at Aston Hills become more involved with the club?
The clubhouse is open 7 days a week and can be a great spot to grab a coffee, a drink, or a bite to eat, and with our playing and social memberships there’s a 10% discount on food and beverage. We’re currently reviewing the offering and our service times with a focus on opening the clubhouse more so watch this space! We’re also open for golf every day of the year except for Christmas and offer 1 on 1 or group lessons, a driving range, two practise putting greens and the full 18-hole course. You can also keep up to date with everything on our Aston Hills Golf Club Facebook page.
Are there opportunities for kids to join up or get involved?
Absolutely. Our junior membership base is currently our fastest growing membership category and a strong focus of the club moving into the future. Membership for under 18’s is currently $150 for the year, and with the State Government’s $100 Sports Voucher Program, you can get the price down to only $50 for a full year’s worth of golf. Our club Professional Ben Traeger will also be running junior clinics in the Term 3 + 4 School Holidays for those who want to come and give it a go.
Is the Clubhouse open for members of the public or for events?
We’re an all-inclusive club and love to see locals immersing themselves in the atmosphere and facilities of the club. Our social events are open to everyone and our various function spaces are available for hire for private events.
If people want to sign up and get involved, who should they speak to?
If they’ve been given a playing membership as part of purchasing a block of land at Aston Hills, they can bring their voucher in and get set up in no time at all. Otherwise, if they want to sign up for one of our various membership categories or ask any questions, they can ring us on (08) 8391 0547 or pop into the Clubhouse during opening hours.
What do you love most about life at Aston Hills?
Probably the community aspect and having everything we need so close, and it offers a lot for people who like getting out of the house. We love grabbing a coffee and walking our two dogs to the Laratinga wetlands, watching the sport at the Summit Sport and Recreation Park and of course, it would be remiss of me if I didn’t say that one of my favourite things is having the golf course so close by!
